A Bit of Halloween in July

A Bit of Halloween in July

Around the corner from the place I live there is a house with bars on the windows. Let me clarify: There are bars INSIDE the windows. It is a nice house with a nice porch and a well-kept lawn but the person who lives there is not as nice as his surroundings.

The man who lives in that house is crazy. When I was a young teenager, my friends and I went for a walk on our property. We were doing our usual thing which was nothing but talking and laughing. Apparently, we got too close to his property line because he met us there with a rifle. He pointed it right at us and told us we had to go home NOW. We didn't argue. From that point on, we didn't walk that area of the field. We didn't even get close.

A couple of years ago my 16 year old daughter was visiting her aunt and was spending some time in the woods. She ran across a chicken and was playfully chasing it around. She lost track of time and did not realize how far she had gone. My sister described the "rat-a-tat" shots she heard just a few minutes before my girl came running into the house, screaming and crying. She had gone too far and "some guy wearing a hooded raincoat shot at me! It was an automatic!"

It was an automatic weapon. The same man did not deny shooting at my daughter and the cops did nothing because she was indeed on his property. I do believe they could have done SOMETHING but that is how it is I suppose.

Now, back to the bars on the inside of his windows... why do you suppose they are there? City people will often install them due to the fear of burglars but aren't those usually on the outside? This is the country. It is so rare to have break-ins out here.

Mine and my daughter's run-ins with the old man have me speculating. I almost took a picture of the house today for posting but I'm not sure if I can legally do that and I'm not really up to asking him for permission. ;)

For future reference, this is the southwest edge of Clare County, Michigan. If I go missing, you know where to look for me.

Just kidding.

Kinda.

*Queue the spooky music*
